Hearing Preservation Surgery of Intracanalicular Tumors by the Middle Fossa Approach

Abstract
Acoustic tumor, originating from the vestibular nerve, is the commonest neoplasm in the internal auditory canal. But lymphangioma is rare in this region. In case of a small tumor limited within the internal auditory canal, the middle cranial
fossa
approach is a selective method to preserve hearing as well as facial nerve function in addition to the complete removal of the tumor itself. We report the results of our recent experiences of functional preservation surgery in each case of
intracanalicular acoustic neuroma and lymphangioma.
